Boys Varsity Track & Field
Cavalier Relays – March 9, 2019
The Track and Field teams competed at Richland Northeast High School this past Saturday and continued the strong showing they started the season with. The boys competed against 12 other teams and earned 5th place overall. The small ladies squad earned 11th place overall against 14 opposing teams. The Cavalier Relays is comprised mostly of relay events where 4 athletes run consecutive sections, or “legs”, of an event while passing a baton. This means that there were not as many individual performances in the running events, but we still have some highlights.
For the boys, our top performers from last week, Malik Richardson and Jamal Anderson, are joined by Kaheem Rhodes and Jalen Clea. Malik came in 2nd in the open 100m dash with a time of 11.14. Jamal threw 139-03 in the discus for 2nd place as well. Kaheem followed with a 5th place throw of 115. Jalen high jumped for the first time this season after winning the 4A State Championship in the event last year and cleared 6-02, earning him 1st place. The team’s 800m Sprint Medley squad of Taron Wilson, Jaylin White, Malik Richardson, and Justin Anderson also had a standout effort that earned 2nd place. Also notable was Dontez Moses’ 7th place throw in the discus of 110-03.
On the ladies’ side, Zaria Stephens continued to show her skill with a 2nd place long jump of 15-05.75, and a 7th place 100m dash of 13.38. The 4x100 squad earned a 6th place spot with a time of 54.44.
